Supporting the Cardiovascular System

As we get closer to the end of spring, our bodies start to adjust for summer. The summer months bring more energy.  We can support this flow of energy by supporting the heart and its functions.

This recipe offers many benefits for the heart:

  • Strawberries are particularly high in the antioxidant, anthocyanin, which have been shown to improve blood vessel function and lower LDL cholesterol.

  • Many studies show that whey protein may support reductions in blood pressure and arterial stiffness.  Whey protein works to protect your muscles and help you lose weight, lessening the risk factors for cardiovascular disease.

  • Yogurt or foods with good bacteria have been linked with lower blood pressure.  Not enough good bacteria can lead to an imbalance in the microbiome.  These imbalances can trigger chronic inflammation, which is a major risk factor for CVD.  Yogurt may help bring things back into balance.

  • Rose is known to be supportive for the physical and emotional heart.

    • It’s been used by herbalist and spiritual practitioners to soothe, open and heal the heart.  In herbalism energetics, it’s categorized as cooling, slightly moistening and softening. The perfect balance to the heat of the summer.

    • From a physiological perspective, rose can improve circulation, reduce inflammation in the cardiovascular system and support cardiac rhythm.

  • Honey is rich in antioxidants that may improve cholesterol levels and improve blood vessel function.  It also provides anti-inflammatory actions to support the heart.

  • Almonds are rich in healthy fats, fiber and vitamin E.  These nutrient dense nuts can significantly reduce LDL cholesterol, reducing the risk of CVD.  They contribute to cardiovascular health by enhancing vascular function and lipid profiles.
